What are signs of a good latch when breastfeeding?

A good latch should not feel like your nipple is being pinched by a tiny angry crab. Instead, it should feel like a strong tug or suction, not sharp pain.

Baby’s mouth should be wide open, lips flanged (like a fish), and their chin should be touching your breast. You’ll hear rhythmic sucking and swallowing—not clicking or smacking.

If it hurts, unlatch and try again. Yes, it takes practice. No, it doesn’t mean you’re bad at this. It means you’re learning something new—with a very unpredictable teacher.
