What’s the deal with newborn poop?

It’s wild, unpredictable, and comes in a shocking variety of textures and colors. First it’s black and tarry (meconium), then mustardy yellow if breastfeeding, or more tan/pasty if formula feeding.

There will be blowouts. There will be weird noises. You’ll become way too comfortable talking about poop. It’s just part of the new mom life.

As long as it’s not white, red, or full of mucus—and baby seems content—you’re good. When in doubt, ask your pediatrician or take a pic (yes, seriously).
